Strawberries, antiques, crafts await vistors to annual festival

Lawrence County,AL - What goes best with strawberries? A hot buttered biscuit . . . a dessert cup for strawberry shortcake . . . antiques?

In Lawrence County, this weekend the perfect combination for strawberries includes antiques and crafts. This is the weekend for the annual Antique and Strawberry Festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

There was some doubt if there would be a festival after the storm on April 19 tore through the pine grove on Ala. 157 where the festival is held. Festival organizers have received many calls from people worried that the event might have to be canceled.

“We didn’t want to clear cut any of the trees but we didn’t have much choice,” said festival organizer Natalie-Ann Dutton. “There was just so much damage. We wouldn’t have had time to get the fallen trees out before the festival. I don’t think we could have gotten all the fallen trees out without cutting down a lot of the ones still standing.”.....
