96-year-old Missoula woman makes quilt for first dog Bo

If anybody from little ol' Missoula is going to get a personalized handmade quilt to the first dog in Washington, D.C., it's Doris LaRoque.Never mind that she's 96 years old.“I tell people I'm 69,” LaRoque quipped Wednesday.

The memory quilt, more than four feet long and just as wide, depicts the Obama family and Bo, the Portuguese water puppy who arrived at the White House a month ago.

“I gave one to (Gov. Brian) Schweitzer last fall for his little dog Jag, and I told Tammy, ‘Why don't I make one for our president? They're going to have a dog pretty soon,' ” she said.

Tammy LaRoque, Doris' daughter-in-law, made the political connections. She works at the Hilton Garden Inn on North Reserve Street and was there one day several months ago when Sen. Jon Tester checked in.......
