Hand woven silk has for long been one of the many unique art forms that have brought fame and international acclaim to Thailand through excellent craftsmanship and distinctively intricate designs.
Although the perception of Isan as arid and drought-prone might not inspire outsiders to travel there, but to the locals this hot and dusty region is where they continue to honour their ancestral legacy of fine silk-manufacturing, a feature that has enabled them not just to survive, but also master the conditions and keep their creative juices flowing down the generations.
One of the region's finest silk products is called Praewa, a traditional fabric woven according to the unique Phu Tai technique which has been handed down to women of Ban Pon in Kham Muang district of Kalasin province.
