Sisters woman brings art of quilting to small African village; now villagers bring their art to Sisters quilt show
Sisters resident Janet Storton remembers well standing in a mountain village in Uganda, presenting two girls with quilts she made.
As soon as she pulled out the colorful blankets, the women of the village of Kapchorwa flocked around her. They hadn’t seen anything like the blankets before and wanted to learn how to make them. “They begged me to come back and help them,” said Storton.
Storton was in Africa in 2007 as part of a medical team and served as a sponsor through a program at her church, which was providing a small amount of money each month to help the girls of the village attend school.......
