‘Jurassic John’ has hobby for making wooden dino models

LAVALE — His favorite nickname is Jurassic John, and after crafting and delivering more than 350 wooden model dinosaurs to schools and libraries in Western Maryland, John Estes has earned the moniker.

“Some of the kids call me Dinosaur John, some call me Dinosaur Man,” said Estes, a retired AT&T worker who first made a set of model dinosaurs for his grandchildren a few years ago.

They were ecstatic.

“They were wanting me to buy them books on natural history and dinosaurs,” said Estes, of Boonsboro. “When I (saw) how much interest they had, I thought other young people would like them.”......
