Embroidery… With Style – Conference
PRESS RELEASE
Sep 10, 2009 –
"A style does not go out of style as long as it adapts itself to its period. When there is an incompatibility between the style and a certain state of mind, it is never the style that triumphs."
Coco Chanel
London - With its growing reputation as one of Britain fastest developing fashion cities, Glasgow was the obvious choice for Hand & Lock when the time came to decide the location of its 3rd international conference:
“Embroidery ... with Style”. Supported by Glasgow Caledonian University, the Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and Cardonald College Glasgow, the London embroiderer will again organise a unique and amazing one day symposium with a focus on tomorrow’s fashion! Accompanied by world known fashion experts - Francois Lesage, James Sherwood & Sir Tom Baker to name a few - Hand & Lock will decipher which essential ingredients are required to set a style. Our speakers will captivate the audience with stories of their own successes and experiences.
The Conference will also be an opportunity to see how embroidery has been an integral part of these styles: from the first faltering steps of Fashion in the 14th Century, to modern day influence. It will, give a better understanding of the multiple ways embroidery designs can add dimension to a drawing developing a unique piece for the catwalk or the most exclusive
interiors soft furnishings.
The Fashion Show following the afternoon session will sure certainly be one of the highlights of the day. Entries from the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery 2009 will be presented on the catwalk together with pieces from Glasgow Caledonian University graduates.
The day will end with a champagne reception, where winners of the 2009 Prize will be presented with their awards and a host of other prizes and delegates will have a great opportunity to meet with the speakers.
