Digital Weaving:’Binary Fiction’ show features pieces created using computer-driven loom
Not that long ago the image of a woman sitting over a loom weaving was looked upon as a minor craft, fit only for making one's own serape or maybe a funky wall hanging.
At the most, if the woman was college-educated and prone to political views, then weaving might be seen as an emulation of Gandhi, a meditative practice and a mild form of protest against manufactured cloth.
There may still be women who look upon weaving as a pastime or a meditation, holdovers from the 1960s, when a good many family rooms in the houses of intellectuals were dominated by giant hand looms and piles of yarn.....
