PURLS of wisdom are being passed on to Gen Y as wool sales boom and knitting makes a clicking comeback.
Thanks to the credit crunch and celebrity trendsetters, knitting is in vogue, with young mums, students and eco warriors taking up the trend.
Catherine Zeta-Jones was recently seen knitting, models backstage at the New York Fashion Week have been casting a stitch to pass the time and Nicole Kidman has been seen buying wool.
Wool supplier Lincraft said yarn sales have steadily increased in the past four years.
Lincraft yarn buyer Sean Lenehan said they would sel1 35,000 pairs of knitting needles and crochet hooks this year with the crochet craft also taking off after actor Cate Blanchett wore a colourful crocheted dress to a Melbourne opening.
Mr Lenehan said sales of "funkier" coloured wool and natural fibres were booming......
