Kool-Aid makes a great colorfast yarn dye, especially for wool, says Lauri Harris.
Spinning and dyeing yarn is the natural progression of yarn love and all things knitting, says Harris, one of the owners at Athena Fibers. She passed along her newly discovered use for the venerable kid's drink at a recent class held there.
Playing with yarn, experimenting with textures and trying out colors is part of the lure of knitting, Harris says.
"It's a two-handed, year-round sport."Knitting has enjoyed an uptick in interest recently, partly due to more fashion-forward yarns. The new fiber vibe is attractive to younger folks, Harris says......
