Crafters create ‘green’ Christmas gifts

This Christmas, those who have made a hobby or living from re-purposing or recycling items into beautiful works of art or nature-friendly attractions encourage people to look outside of the box when thinking of Christmas gifts.
Not every good present comes from a box.
Washer earrings, paper beads, typewriter key necklaces and decorating trees without endangering wildlife can make Christmas environmentally friendly and provide beautiful gifts for loved ones.
“I’ve been known to use washers, bottle caps, nylon ties that policemen use for handcuffs or that you put around a garbage bag and old jewelry that I take apart,” said Sugar Land resident Kay Hand, who makes jewelry and dolls from recycled or re-purposed items. “I’ve made beads from paper and painted them and formed them.”....
