Necklaces made of paper beads sell locally, benefit Ugandan women

More than 100 women in Uganda are feeding their families and sending their children to school because of a program started by two Fruita Monument High School graduates.
Morgan Hansow, 27, and David Hansow, 28, created the nonprofit organization Light Gives Heat in 2007 while adopting their daughter, Jadyn, from Uganda.
After spending six months of 2007 in Uganda and establishing the company in Montrose, the Hansows opened a retail store and business headquarters for Light Gives Heat earlier this month at 2507 Weslo Ave. in Grand Junction.
Light Gives Heat buys necklaces made by Ugandan women and sells them online and in more than 60 boutiques and chain stores, including Whole Foods.
The necklaces are sold under the brand name Suubi, which means “hope” in the Uganda language.....
