Handmade cards handled with care

PROVINCETOWN — It's rare today to get a personalized card in the mail. But imagine what it might be like to receive an annual holiday card — a handmade, keepsake piece — from a beloved friend and well-known artist.
In the mid-1900s, artists in Province-town were exchanging just those kinds of cards — personal, sweet, funny, ironic and uniquely creative. Many were wood or linoleum block prints in bright colors of red, green, blue, and yellow on heavy, textured paper. Some were pen and ink drawings, or small paintings.
An exhibit of about 70 cards — representing about 30 artists — is on display through Jan. 10 at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.....
