ARTISTS AND ARTISANS have to be crafty to survive recessions, says Halifax jeweller Dorothee Rosen.

"You have to take a long-term view," the NSCAD University graduate said in an interview from her Agricola Street studio Monday.

The global recession has taken a toll on most economic sectors, and Nova Scotia’s arts community hasn’t been exempt.

But the recession has affected the community in ways that might surprise, said Ms. Rosen, who produces custom jewelry ranging in price from $200 to $2,000 that sells in galleries in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and the United States.....
