Embracing Fabric Exhibit Opens In White Plains
White Plains, NY - The White Plains Public Library is pleased to announce the opening of Embracing Fabric, featuring the artwork of Judi Offenberg and Kate Perri.
The show opens in the Library’s Museum Gallery on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 with an artists’ reception from 6 to 8 PM. The exhibit will be on display through February 23, 2010. Kathleen Masterson is curator of this show.
Judi Offenberg studied textile design and graduated from Syracuse University with a B.F.A. in 1977. She worked as a textile designer in New York City for 15 years for several well-known home-furnishing companies. After receiving her Master’s Degree in teaching at Manhattanville College, Judi started working as a high school art teacher in the Katonah Lewisboro School District, where she continues to work today. She teaches drawing, ceramics, silk painting, sculpture and printmaking. Over Judi’s 32-year professional career, she has created over 750 paintings and designs.
Kate Perri has a B.F.A. in Designer Crafts from the Maryland Institute College of Art and is a teacher, fiber artist and author. Kate is a self-taught quilter and has completed several hundred custom quilt projects which range from classic quilt patterns to those that include photographs, memorabilia, clothing and other repurposed fabrics. For over fifteen years she has introduced teens and adults to machine sewing basics; producing quilts, garments, accessories, and home decoration. Kate gives private sewing lessons and has also taught at the Quilt Cottage in Mamaroneck, New York since it opened in 2004. Kate has written two books, Quilt Blocks and Quilts from Your Favorite Fabrics and Easy Singer Style: Fashion and Accessories, published by Creative Publishing International.
This exhibit is made possible by The Friends of the White Plains Public Library and assistance from The City of White Plains. Museum Gallery hours are 10 AM - 9 PM, Monday and Wednesday; 10 AM - 6 PM Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 1 PM – 5 PM, Sunday. The Library is located at 100 Martine Avenue, White Plains.
