Grand Rapids artist’s jewelry line, trinkets dazzle

Grand Rapids artist Jaclyn Dreyer makes RECYCLEry pendants out of plexiglas and salvaged paper clippings, glass magnets and decorative bulbs fashioned from burned out lights. ...After the kids, ages 4 to 12, go to bed, she flips on the light in her home studio in Grand Rapids and makes one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces and upcycled art, including mosaic and decoupage light bulbs, tiny mirrors, plastic glass pendants, and magnets with text typed on her vintage typewriter.
It was one of her embellished, upcycled light bulbs that first caught my eye when I passed by her booth at the Fulton Street Artisans Market last summer.
Creative challenges
As a woman committed to crafting as green as possible, Dreyer loves to challenge herself to create with materials rescued from the trash. While most people pitch burned out light bulbs, Dreyer paints and embellishes them with buttons and polka dots, attaches wire hangers and gives them a second wind as happy home decorations.
“I’ve always upcycled stuff,” explained the 30-year-old Grand Rapids artist. “Creating is a lot of fun. I’m always stumbling on something else to do.”....
