Last chance for ‘Knitted, Knotted, Netted’ at Hunterdon Art Museum(NJ)

Artist Leslie Pontz will host a workshop called “Contrasting Elements: Metal Crochet Workshop” on Sunday, Jan. 24, at the museum.

This week is the last chance to see the exceptional exhibit, “Knitted, Knotted, Netted,” at the Hunterdon Art Museum, 7 Lower Center Street, Clinton. This is not your typical concept of knitting which includes your usual stylish hand-knit chic design sweaters. Rather, it is an exhibit of contemporary art works, in which artists utilize the ancient techniques of knitting, knotting and netting, which involves the looping of a thread or cord.
Here you will see variety of intriguing and thought-provoking works such as a large netted hanging cage imprisoning a lonely black bird, entitled “lonely,” by Ann Coddington Rast; a thick white woolen hanging with knotted appendages which flow onto the floor by Karen Ciaramella, a figural sculptural bust of mixed media, “My Breath,” in which the breath of stiffened mesh layers literally comes from the mouth of the figure, by Norma Minkowitz; an intricately knotted sculpture (composed of approximately 500 half-hitch knots per square inch) of an ice cream cone by Ed Bing Lee; and the layered netted container which resonates with a sense of its organic origins by well-known fiber artist Pat Hickman, who is currently President of the Textile Society of America......
