Knitting circle: Women gather for traditional craft with modern twist

On a bitterly cold January evening in Montpelier, the Knitting Studio on State Street emanated a cheerful glow onto the sidewalk outside. Inside at a long table sat 10 women, surrounded by stacks of brightly colored yarn. They chatted easily, each with their hands industriously busy in front of them.It was a Tuesday, which at the Knitting Studio means Knit Night, a chance for friends and newcomers to gather and share a companionable evening talking and dispensing advice, on life and knitting alike.If the term "knitting circle" conjures up the image of grannies creaking in their rocking chairs, think again. Ages at Knit Night started in the 20s; there are mothers, business women, social workers and horse enthusiasts. The discussion ranged from books, to "Avatar" and recent forays to Montreal.....
