"Creative, knitting and crocheting has become very popular and the possibilities are endless," says Elaine, who made a similar design at a recent CWA craft workshop.

"This pattern also makes a great cushion - just add more blocks."

She says the finished size is about 22cm x 22cm.

"All rows are knitted and yarn ends can be worked in as you knit or woven in when the bag is finished.

"Work in a looser tension, especially when casting off each block to avoid bulges in your knitting."
