A new exhibit at the Mt. San Jacinto College Art Gallery will provide a look at surprising advancements in quilt making.

In addition, a film series complementing the exhibition will be held in February to explore the art of crafts such as quilting.

The gallery will display “Textures: Fiber Arts” Saturday through Feb. 18.

The exhibit features works by Textures, a regional group of fiber artists.

The exhibit showcases contemporary art quilts that are not restricted to two-dimensional pieces made for display on a bed. Many incorporate found objects to give the quilts a sculptural quality. Others trade in geometric patterning for figurative or abstract representation.

The opening reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the MSJC Art Gallery. Members of the Textures group will hold a question-and-answer session afterward.

Admission is free.
