SEBRING - Linn Shimek, a Sebring area quilter, has been selected as a semifinalist for the 2010 AQS Quilt Show and Contest, March 24-27, at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, Pa.
Shimek has been chosen to display the quilt, called Sultry Shadows, along with 200 others, in the annual contest, which is offering more than $42,000 in total prize money.
Sultry Shadows was chosen from a large field of entries and will compete against others within its category. Three quilting authorities will judge this elite group in Lancaster and winners will be announced before the show opens on March 24.
The first-place winner within each category will receive a $1,500 cash prize and the best of show will receive $10,000. Regardless of how the quilt places in the final judging, all semifinalists' quilts will be displayed at the show, which is expected to draw nearly 20,000 people.
Quilts were entered in this international contest from 38 states and 7 other countries. The quilt artists employ a wide variety of techniques ranging from traditional pieced patterns, to painted and embellished original designs. Some of the special exhibits that will be featured along with the contest quilts include 2011 Pilgrim, Roy Challenge; Point of View, Studio Art Quilt Associates and A Slice of Life, Coastal Quilt Artists.
