Thousands expected to attend quilt and craft festival

TRENTON — A confluence of events are about to make North Florida a hotbed of a centuries-old craft — quilting.
By the weekend, thousands of quilters and quilter wannabes will be strolling through the small town of Trenton admiring hundreds of quilts.
And each Thursday morning, anyone who wants to learn to quilt is welcome to sit and stitch next to one of many women with decades of experience in making award-winning quilts.
Quilting is a big deal in North Florida.
“Actually, quilting is big everywhere,” said Pam McIntyre, co-owner of A-1 Sewing in Gainesville and instrumental in getting quilting star Sue Haussman to Gainesville this week. “People just like to quilt, probably because a lot of piecing is straight sewing, so it can provide quick satisfaction.”
It is also affordable, according to Stephanie Metts, founder and owner of the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shoppe in Trenton, which is hosting the upcoming Suwannee Valley Quilt and Old Time Craft Festival......
