Business has a bead on art

Carmen Ball-Goralski hopes to make Beloit Pottery a little art Mecca.

She opened the business at 156 St. Lawrence Ave. on Nov. 1 to bring art to the masses. The store sells pottery, pottery supplies and beads galore. Ball-Goralski hopes to start holding art shows and eventually offer glass blowing, painting, and children’s art classes by next fall.

For now she is introducing a bit of art to those who want to make beaded jewelry.

“It’s good for the soul to create something,” she said.

On Sunday from 2-3 p.m., Ball-Goralski was hosting her weekly Bitch and Bead class. She offers the free class to any adult who wants to learn the basics of beading. Attendees pay for the beads, or pay $5 to bring their own. Ball-Goralski said the average cost of making a pair of earrings is about $2 worth of beads.

For Cheryl Jackson, the low price was well worth the relaxation. She said an hour is a the right amount of time to get away, and spend some time getting to know other beaders......
