Work of Shell Knob quilter in national contest
A quilter from the Shell Knob area has been selected as a semifinalist for the 2010 American Quilter’s Society Quilt Show and Contest April 21-24 at the Paducah Expo Center in Kentucky.
Clara Cartwright’s quilt, Colorwash Garden, will be displayed along with 386 others in the annual contest, now in its 26th year.
Judges will selected first through third place winners in 15 categories, along with nine overall awards. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony April 20. Cash awards totaling $120,000 will be given.
Quilts were entered from 47 U.S. states and 10 other countries. There will also be special exhibits featured in the show along with the contest quilts. More than 30,000 people are expected to attend.
The American Quilter’s Society hosts four shows annually, each with its own quilt contest. The other shows are in Knoxville, Tenn.; Des Moines, Iowa; and Lancaster, Penn.
