Jewelry artist Shayna Illingworth’s work involves a lot of experimentation

If you spot jewelry artist Shayna Illingworth of Kohler trolling the aisles of a local hardware store, she's probably scouting finds for her next jewelry project, not completing her weekend to-do list.
Insect mesh called out to her during a recent visit, and Illingworth toted a roll to her studio, morphing it into inch-long cones hung from earring wire. She attached other cones to a necklace, their fingers fanning out along the wire.
"I love the translucency, so when you layer it and crunch it up, it has layers you can see through," she said. "It gives it dimension."
It's time for a second look at the mesh jewelry — far from its humble beginnings as insect screen, it now seems to catch the light a bit differently, imbued with new-found sophistication......
