150 Woolly Breasts Made by Mother’s Union to Train

Mother's Union from Somerset has knitted 150 woolen breasts to help women breast feed for NHS. Instead of balloons these replica woolen breasts will be used to explain how to deal with blocked ducts and mastitis and to show how to express breast milk.

According to NHS infant feeding specialist Louise Stickland, the idea of using knitted breasts in training aid has come from the women who did knitting of clothes for premature babies. She asked them to do the job for her. "To my delight, they agreed and enrolled four of their best knitters, who have done an outstanding job." said Louise.

These colorful ranges of breasts will be professionally used by nurses and community workers across Somerset to help train breastfeeding mothers. According to Shirley Dibbs, liaison officer at the Mothers' Union, Members of the Mothers' Union are always ready to help good causes and we often produce knitted clothes for very small premature babies......
