Beads of Courage Program; how to help
TUCSON - The beads of courage are making a difference in the lives of children all over the country, and around the world.
They're the idea of Tucsonan Jean Baruch.
She worked as a pediatric oncology nurse after graduation from nursing school. Jean found she could attend to children's physical needs and the treatment of their condition, but was lacking in addressing their emotional support.
So she founded "the Beads of Courage Program" which currently gives beads to 10-thousand children across the country who have life-threatening conditions.
Each bead symbolizes the different treatments and procedures they go through which over time also symbolize the many challenges they've overcome.
The Beads of Courage Program works with 70 children's hospitals across the country and has volunteers around the world.
