When Maria Toomey was pregnant with her first child, she learned how to crochet so she could make a blanket for her baby.

Then after Katelynn, now 3, was born, Toomey started making hats for her.

“I wanted to find something that was durable and warm and yet cute,” Toomey said. “I had a hard time finding anything that was cute and actually covered their ears and was warm. It seemed like everything was either cute or warm.”

Toomey, who now has another daughter, 1-year-old Elizabeth, has taken a break from her work as a counselor to be a stay-at-home mom. She has also started selling her craft projects......
