www.ClassicRockCreations.com

Materials:

Candle Wax (I’m going to recycle some boring white candles from the house)

Clean milk or juice carton (Your need something with a nice square bottom)

Melting pot/can

Candle Thermometer (Perhaps you could use a candy thermometer or other kind also)

Wick or taper candle

Optional- Wax coloring and scent (You can use dye chips specially for coloring candles, liquid dye added with an eye-dropper, or even crayons! For scents, avoid essential oils since most are not designed for the high-heat of candles. Many craft stores can assist with what scents are appropriate and scented lamp ring oils are generally the inexpensive route.)

Steps:

Clean out your milk or juice carton. I will be chugging the rest of the orange juice from breakfast.

Trim the top off the carton to your desired height. I only trimmed about 1/5 off the top.

Cut up the wax into small pieces. I’m going to shave it with a grater; this will help it to melt faster.

Melt the wax in a suitable pot placed in a larger pot with boiling water. A clean metal can also works well for melting wax. I’m using a large can formerly housing lychees.

The wax can ignite if it becomes too hot. Keep a close eye and make sure the wax stays between 170-180 degrees F. Note- Wax fires should be extinguished with baking soda or a fire extinguisher, not water.

If you want to color your candle, add the wax coloring or liquid dye now and stir. You can use a potato peeler to add small pieces of wax dye. Remember the color will change as the wax hardens. You can test the color by dripping a few drops onto a white paper plate and letting it harden as it cools after a few minutes.

When the wax is melted, you can also add your preferred scent. You add 1/8 oz. of candle scent for every pound of wax. Stir.

The easiest way to give your candle a wick is to use a thin, tapered candle in the same color. Protect your hand with a potholder and pour a small amount of wax (about ½ in.) into the bottom of the carton. Set the tapered candle into the center of the bottom and let harden.

Break up a cup or more of ice in a plastic bag. The smaller the pieces are, the better the design will look. You can use a meat mallet or a rolling pin.

Pour the crushed ice into the carton up to the top.

Pour the hot wax over the ice and let stand overnight to harden.

In the morning, pour off any water standing on top of the candle and set the carton upside down on a towel or plate to drain any remaining water.

Carefully tear off the carton to reveal the ice candle.

As the provider of Louis XIV’s French royal court, as well as the most glorious cathedrals and churches over France, Cire Trudon has established an unrivalled historical reputation as the one and only candle maker.

Today Cire Trudon creates wax candles for the great and the good of French luxury – Hermes, Cartier, Dior, Guerlain, Kenzo, etc as well as for palaces and gastronomic restaurants.

This prestigious history is reflected in the scents which play homage to the patrons and the events that marked the existence of the candle Manufacturer.

ABOUT US

All of our products are hand crafted and made with the finest materials available and offered to you at a fair price. I operate Promethean Candle Boutique with my small staff in Mahopac, New York providing candles both locally and worldwide.

The reason why I created Promethean Candle Boutique was in part due to my dissatisfaction with supposedly hand crafted candles. In my humble opinion, I feel that there is not enough artistry incorporated into the world of candle making. In today’s modern world, it seems candle making has gone the way of the mass produced, colorless, commonplace car; rolling by on the assembly line with no thought to style or passion. It is my ambition to put luster and emotion back into candles. My staff and I make each candle with great attention to creativity and detail. We enjoy peering off the edge of the conventional candle into a limitless world of enlightened art.

A flame can be symbolic of passion, desire, culture and intellect and the candle which holds the flame should also have deep meaning and be deeply expressive. Our candles are creative pieces of expressive art, and not simply a means to keep a flame. I don’t think that I’m exaggerating when I say that our candles are in fact completely and unequivocally unique. But don’t take my word for it – our products speak for themselves.

Soy candles last much longer than candles made of petroleum-based paraffin, the ingredient found in most candles. In addition to lasting longer, they burn slower and cooler which helps to better distribute fragrance, are non-toxic, less likely to trigger allergies, clean up with soap and water, and produce very little soot.

The advantages of soy candles are as follows:

• Soy candles are made from soy wax, which is hydrogenated soybean oil.
• Soy wax is a new alternative to paraffin wax that is cost effective.
• Soy candles are environmentally friendly! Soy wax is not made from petroleum, like paraffin candles. Burning soy candles does not increase the CO2 level in the atmosphere.
• Made from American-grown soybeans, it's biodegradable, a renewable resource.

Since soy candles are less likely to trigger allergies, those who have pets and/or small children are more apt to burn soy than any other type of candle. There are even health benefits to burning soy candles vs. the traditional type candles. Most traditional candles cause soot. If you’ve ever seen a black film lining the jar of a candle or even if you’ve seen a black mark on the walls or ceiling near where a candle is being burned, then you’ve seen soot. Soot is caused by the toxic elements in traditional candles that are released when ignited. Soy candles are all natural and do not contain any toxins, which means very little to no soot. This is true with Beanpod candles, which are loved by many!......

These candles are really expensive, but there are good reasons for that. They are also one of the cleanest candles you are able to find right now.

Beeswax candles compete in the market against three different competitors, namely, soy wax candles, gel candles, and paraffin candles. You will see that the competitors have lower quality and are less pricey.

Commercial bee farmers are collecting the wax from the bee hives, and this wax is what we use to make beeswax candles. To prepare the candle making process, the beeswax itself is being processed and purified. The purification process includes heating the wax in hot water.

You will be able to find many different forms and shapes of these candles, as well as finding unscented and scented types. One of the reasons why beeswax candles are considered top-of-the-line is their burning characteristics. These candles burn with warmer flames and emit a more prominent yellow color than some other varieties of candles.

With beeswax candles there is very little wax dripping. A lot of different religious services are using these candles just for the characteristics they have. Some religious institutions like the Catholic Church make heavy use of candles during their services. Those candles would be a big problem if they were dripping their wax everywhere.......
